MONCTON, NB — June 13 — In front of an energized crowd of 300 fans at Rocky Stone Field, the Moncton Mustangs kept their perfect season intact with an impressive 37–12 victory over the Valley Razors in the Maritime Football League semi-final. The win improves Moncton to 5–0 and secures their place in Maritime Bowl 24.
The opening quarter featured early adversity for the Mustangs. The Valley Razors’ defense came up with a crucial goal-line stand, stopping Moncton on fourth down and forcing a turnover deep in their own end. Capitalizing on that momentum swing, the Razors followed up with the game’s first touchdown, handing Moncton its first deficit of the season and setting a physical tone early.
With starting quarterback David Patry out of the lineup, Taylor Boudreau stepped in and delivered a standout performance under pressure. Boudreau led the Mustangs’ offense with confidence and control, throwing three touchdown passes and adding another score on the ground. He connected with Matteo Mbho, Nick Bynkoski, and Tory Hicks for passing touchdowns, spreading the ball effectively and keeping the Valley defense off balance throughout the game. Boudreau also added a rushing touchdown of his own, while kicker Nick Swain converted all of the Mustangs’ point-after attempts as the offense began to take control.
After the early score by Valley, the Mustangs’ defense settled in and turned the tide of the game. They limited the Razors’ offensive opportunities throughout the remainder of the contest, applying consistent pressure and tightening up their coverage. A key moment came when Landon Dingee recorded a defensive safety, extending Moncton’s lead and energizing both the sideline and the crowd.
By the second half, the Mustangs were firmly in control. Their balanced offensive attack and disciplined defensive play allowed them to steadily pull away, turning a close early contest into a convincing 37–12 victory. The performance highlighted the team’s depth and resilience, particularly with a backup quarterback stepping in and excelling in a high-stakes playoff matchup.
With the win, the Mustangs now turn their attention to Maritime Bowl 24, where they will face the Nova Scotia Buccaneers on June 20 at 4:00 PM at Rocky Stone Field in Moncton. The Buccaneers earned their spot in the championship with a dominant 42–6 victory over the Saint John Wanderers in the other semi-final. The upcoming game marks the third time in the past four years that the Mustangs and Buccaneers will meet for the league title, adding another chapter to a growing rivalry.
Carrying an undefeated record and strong momentum, the Mustangs will now look to cap off their season with a championship performance as they prepare for another highly anticipated showdown on home turf.
